About the CIX's Digital Archives
About the Centre Iannis Xenakis’s Digital Archives
The written, printed, audio and video trails of the work done by composers and researchers in this Center for Musical Creation currently comprises forty linear meters. These physical archives of the Centre Iannis Xenakis are now housed at the Library of the University of Rouen.
After the pre-inventory stage (organization of collections and their conservation according to standard archival norms), our association, under the auspices of the GRHIS (research lab at the University of Rouen) obtained support from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication in the context of a national digitization program.
In addition to the permanent preservation of our documents, this project aims to digitize, index and disseminate the archives of the Centre Iannis Xenakis via the internet. To this end, a partnership was established with the Contemporary Music Portal in order to develop data and metadata for digital collections. Other international partnerships are already envisaged.
The digitization and the online publication of these numerous resources facilitate the understanding of works created and archived at CIX, as well as the creative process associated with them, by a broad public. All this data will be available under conditions protecting the intellectual property of their authors and copyright owners, according to the agreements negotiated by the Contemporary Music Portal with rights collection societies (diffusion in compressed formats of images and excerpts streamed in compressed formats for audio and video).
